Before anything, take a moment of silence for the lives that have been lost (and are being lost) in the Libyan Slave Trade .
Tragedy has struck Libya in the worst imaginable way. With a two years presidential absence and smuggling at an all time high in Tripoli, the needs of refugees seeking freedom are mind-boggling. Family and friends of refugees are paying smugglers for safe travel toward European countries.
Alas, their missions of safe travels are soon aborted.
Stopping dead in their tracks, refugees are being held captive and sold into “indentured servitude “. Smugglers that are manning the boats of over 100 refugees to Europe are not remotely interested in the well being or survival of the traveling refugees. The ones that are spared captivity are unkempt and will continue through their journey to Europe, leaving many reported lost or dead by the time of their arrival to freedom.

First Lieutenant Naser Hazam of the government’s Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency in Tripoli told CNN that although he had not witnessed a slave auction, he acknowledges that organized gangs are operating smuggling rings in the country.
“The situation is dire,” Mohammed Abdiker, the director of operation and emergencies for the International Organization for Migration, said in a statement after returning from Tripoli in April. “Some reports are truly horrifying and the latest reports of ‘slave markets’ for migrants can be added to a long list of outrages.”
In addition to the selling of souls for pennies to the dollar, the abuse and turmoil of these people is outrageous. Here we can see a few “sold souls” beaten, whipped, and even mutilated in the streets every day.
There are many rumors as to how this atrocity came into play. One of the common ones is the absence of the former president Muammar Gaddafi. It is stated that after his reign, the town became corrupt and made for impossible passage to Europe.
Another recent issue floating around is the Greater Middle Eastern Project (or Arab Spring). something that has been in effect merely 10 days after 9/11 and has been pushing to clean out the Middle East muslim regions such as Iraq, Somalia, Iran and Libya.
Gaddafi was refusing to bow down and was working on establishing an african central bank. This would have backed all of the central resources in Africa onto one specific African dollar, not the Libyan currency (dinar), and allowed all of the world powers to bow to the African dollar. The World powers saw this as an issue and allowed corruption to come about for the continued exploitation of Africa’s resources.
In conclusion, Innocent lives have been lost because of this ordeal and now the United Nations, AU, and ECOWAS are urgently being called upon to act and free these young Africans held in ‘Slave Markets’ in Libya and entirely stop that atrocity once and for all.
